Why is it when you're working on your own house that things seem to take longer? When I'm doing a clients house I'm up and out the door by 8, this week I've been lucky to get up by 7:30-7:45. Once I do my devotional, have coffee, catch up on the news, man routine, it's 9:30 or so. Today was no exception. After much consideration, online research, I wasn't crazy about doing a shower pan. I had found pans that are made from polysomthin that you can tile right over but they want $566 and up for those. They must be mighty proud. The other option has been doing it old school, sloped mortar base, polysomthin "pan" (liner) and then another screed
morter base on top of that. Then I found a company that has a
Pro Slope, which is merely white Styrofoam and cardboard pitched properly to the drain. Of course you have to put the liner in and a mortar base on top of that. I thought I could do this and found out that the
Tile Center in Columbia had this product in stock. Check out their home page as the family story is quite interesting. Anyway, I gave them $69 for the slope, and with the liner and other supplies they ended up with about $160 of our money.

I guess I still wasn't sure about the shower floor as I found myself back on the computer looking at another system, suggested to me by a fella named Stan at
Palmetto Tile. He suggested that I check out this company called
Schluter and they had an easy, fail safe method. I followed his advise but their videos don't want to play continuously on my laptop. They refresh about every 10 seconds making it almost impossible to watch. I have watched many videos researching this shower project so I'm sure it's not me. Anyway, due this flaw I blew Stan and his suggestion off.
Yes, there's more to this story and I'll wrap it up tomorrow, along with more pictures of my progress. The picture above is what I finally got done today, one wall with hardie board and a niche.
